Second Life

First Thoughts

I have recently tried my first go on second life. I spent at least an hour working on the appearance of my character, I was aiming to make him look just like me, everything went well in that respect but there were 2 problems I encountered and just decided to ignore them later, the first was the lack of customary hair, it had many options but little to no variation, I am fairly sure that there are places to get more appearances though. The second problem was the minimal use of textures, there seemed to be no place which i could play about with them any further than just simply placing them on the object and altering its colour, there should be more options like one to repeat the texture more than once.

The game itself is overwhelming at first, with so many options and the general indirection at the start of the game. I have simply so far just had a look around the islands I started off on, from this i was disappointed at the slow graphical movement (Which preferably cant be avoided at the moment,) also the music that was played was awful, there should be no music at all (except in a players own space) other than ambience because if the player really wants to listen to music they will surely have there own to use, and lastly there is nothing to get the ball rolling here, you make your profile and then left to your own devices. This I feel would deter many gamers at first. There should have been a beginners board with suggestions of things to get started on.

All in all the first impressions were moderate at best. It seems this would appeal more to a person who likes to escape from life more.
